Welcome to my Art Blog! I paint or draw most weekdays and often finish a painting a day. I fondly call them my "Postcards from Paradise" because it's such a beautiful place the Lord made here for us.

"Reflection" Self-Portrait Daily Painting

Original small oil painting 7"x5"
Portrait with chiaroscuro lighting on face, dark background.

Decorative Gold Frame $155.

What do you see when you look in the mirror? What do I see? It's a reflection, of course, but depending on mood, or circumstance, I have might different thoughts about what I see.

Today I reflect on aging... my birthday is coming up, so it's a natural thought progression. I also see my ancestors in the image looking back at me; my grandma's Irish chin, my mother's French and Cherokee cheekbones, my dad's Lebanese hair and eyebrows (and my long arms).

I also see that I am still alive. So, I give thanks to the One who has brought me through all these years, given me
forgiveness, a family, and a life worth living.

Beautiful self portrait, Diana. I like how it's mostly in shadow.

I really like that chiaroscuro lighting too! This was an interesting painting to do... putting in only the barest suggestion of most of the image.
