Welcome to my Art Blog! I paint or draw most weekdays and often finish a painting a day. I fondly call them my "Postcards from Paradise" because it's such a beautiful place the Lord made here for us.

"Fall in the Air" Miniature Landscape Daily Painting

Original miniature oil painting, 3"x2.25"
in tiny gold frame

SOLD

It's been cold and wet here the past couple of days. The weather is definitely changing; it's time to get out the sweaters, drink hot drinks, or a glass of sherry in the evening by the fire. I've wrapped up my tomatoes and basil now... and myself. This time of year, I always miss being able to go barefoot and sleeveless.

I hope you are staying warm and cozy, or maybe it's still nice and warm where you are!

Diana, yet another beautiful painting! I love looking at your work!

Thank you for your kind comments on both Jazzman and Lemon/Drinking Glass. I am so grateful for your words. And I feel the same way. Working from less than optimal reference is such a drain. The painting seems to drag on for months. I have a similar experience with a commission on the easel right now. It's a bottle of salad dressing. I took the reference photo and it's fine, but the lettering on the bottle, the time waiting for layers to dry, and the impatient client have all conspired to create a pervasive ickyness to the painting that will never be finished! Arrrrgh!!! I'll think of your portrait as I try to get the lettering right. Enjoy the weekend and thanks so much! suz

Donna: Thanks so much for dropping by.

Suzanne: Misery loves company. It's comforting in a somewhat perverse way to know you are struggling with the same battles at the easel. Keep working, Girl...I have confidence you'll get it done and others will love it even if you don't. Let's have a long-distance celebratory toast when we're both finished!

I find it hard to believe how well you paint these little pieces. Where do you find frames for something so small and how do you mount the framed piece on a wall? Hard to visualize a wire.

Nice miniature frames ARE getting harder to find. I've gotten them at Michael's in the past. I imagine other hobby supply chain stores might have them too. They are a pain for framers to make custom frames, though.

Hung in a grouping they work well on a wall in coodinating frames. Alone, they tend to get lost on the wall unless it's a very small room.

Sometimes, especially when the little painting gets lost in a frame or the frame covers too much of the image, I simply paint the edges of the little panel black and show them on a tiny easel unframed.

Miniatures look lovely sitting on a bookshelf, or other furniture. I've had new purchasers excitedly tell me, "Oh I love this little painting of the mountain! I'm going to put it on my desk at work so I can see it all the time."

One of my collectors who lives in this area in the summer takes her tiny landscapes she's bought from me back to Cleveland in her suitcase. They remind her of this place while she's gone back to the city and she can dream of the fresh air and lovely vistas of north Idaho.

At my house, there is a narrow ledge by our stairs, well-lit by a window. It's a perfect place to display the little jewels I paint until they're sold or go to the galleries.
